When the War is Coming to Your Backyard

The current events happening in Ukraine raise a lot of questions: Why? What? How did we come to this?

By organizing a live broadcasting event with Q&A, the Benelux Baltics in Business community wants to give answers. We will have two special guests, the ambassador of Lithuania to the Netherlands, Vidmantas Purlys and an independent expert on international relations and security Marius Laurinavičius.

The discussion will focus on Russia's aggression in Ukraine, its impact on European and global stability and security. It will address Russia's calculations, intentions and decision-making within the Kremlin regime. The speakers will try to answer basic questions of what have happened, why it happened, what are the consequences and how to stop Russia.

𝗔𝗠𝗕𝗔𝗦𝗦𝗔𝗗𝗢𝗥 𝗩𝗜𝗗𝗠𝗔𝗡𝗧𝗔𝗦 𝗣𝗨𝗥𝗟𝗬𝗦

Since 2017 H.E. Vidmantas Purlys is ambassador of Lithuania to the Netherlands and Permanent Representative to the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons. In 2009-2014, he served asambassador to Ireland. Ambassador Purlys held various positions in the Ministry of Foreign affairs, including that of Political Director and European Union Director. He joined Lithuania's public service in 1995 and worked in the Ministry of National Defence until 1998. In 1998-2003, he was Head of the Integration

Policy Division of the European Committee of the Government of Lithuania. In January 2001, appointed as a secretary and member of the Lithuanian delegation negotiating accession to the EU. In 2003 V. Purlys joined Lithuania's diplomatic service. Ambassador Purlys was awarded state decorations from Lithuania, Portugal, Sweden and the Netherlands.

In 1998, V. Purlys graduated with Master's Degree in Political Sciences at the Central European University (Hungary). In 1994 studied at the Institute of Political Sciences in Aarhus (Denmark). In 1993 graduated with Bachelor's degree in Sociology at Vilnius University (Lithuania). V. Purlys was born in 1971 in Vilnius. He is married and has daughter.

𝗠𝗔𝗥𝗜𝗨𝗦 𝗟𝗔𝗨𝗥𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗩𝗜Č𝗜𝗨𝗦

M. Laurinavičius is an independent expert on the international relations and security, based in Lithuania. Previously he worked as a senior expert at the Vilnius Institute for Policy Analysis. Before that he spent two years in Washington DC where he worked at the Center for European Policy Analysis and served as a fellow at the Hudson Institute. He's the author of "Weaponizing Kleptocracy: Putin's Hybrid Warfare" and "A Guide to the Russian Tool Box of Election Meddling: a Platform to Analyse the Long Term Comprehensive Kremlin Strategy of Malign Influence", "Money River from Russia to the West. How Toxic is it?" and other analytical papers on Putin's Russia. Before moving to think-tank business M.Laurinavičius had worked for the largest Lithuanian media group 'Lietuvos Rytas' for almost 22 year. Back over the years working as journalist Marius Laurinavičius has become Lithuania's leading foreign and security expert. He has a master degree from the Institute of International Relations and Political Science of Vilnius University.
